Esmi Careaga
Esmi is a Southern California Native who joined the Local news 8 team in June of 2015.
She graduated from California State University- Northridge with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Political Science. While there she was an anchor and reporter for her school’s news station.
She gained journalism experience through various internships and jobs in Los Angeles, including Fox 11’s Good Day LA show, KNBC-Universal and Access Hollywood Live.
She enjoyed producing food segments for Fox 11, where she conducted interviews with trendy restaurants around Melrose and Beverly Hills.
She worked on KNBC’s Investigative Team where she covered the 2010 Whitman VS. Brown Governor election.
The entertainment world opened it’s doors again when she interned for Access Hollywood. She attended glamorous red carpet events where she interviewed celebrities and worked alongside TV hosts Billy Bush, Shaun Robinson and Maria Menounos.
While juggling school, work and interning, she worked as a freelance reporter for Santa Clarita’s public access where she got to know community members.
She then got to shine bright as news assistant for KABC where she got promoted to News Apprentice after graduating. While working for KABC she produced traffic for the 4 p.m. daily newscast.
Esmi is a well-rounded reporter who has dipped her feet in the waters of both entertainment and investigative journalism.
This California girl loves the beach where she can surf the waves and soak up the sun. She loves fashion, food, animals, traveling and believes in helping others.
She thanks her parents who immigrated to the U.S. from Cuba and her news mentors who taught her the ropes.
While Esmi is not out reporting, you might spot her walking her three adorable Chihuahua’s.
This city girl has enjoyed her Idaho journey thus far. She has a passion for getting to know the community and has enjoyed traveling to Yellowstone and seeing the beauties that Idaho has to offer.
