Some East Idaho Credit Union customers hacked
UPDATE: To clarify, East Idaho Credit was not hacked but individual accounts through the credit union. The Department of Finance Director Gavin Gee said the hack most likely occurred through a retailer’s data collection system.

At least 200 East Idaho Credit Union customers had their accounts hacked. Their information was used to make purchases in at least three other countries and eight other states including Idaho.
The credit union says affected accounts have been frozen and new cards have been issued to those customers, and any money stolen during the hack will be returned.
The Idaho Department of Finance says East Idaho Credit Union does not appear to be the source of the breach but is investigating.
Natalie Atkinson had nearly $350.00 stolen. She says there are ways to catch this early.
“Really be diligent about watching where your money is going. Check your accounts if you don’t have a fraud-alert because it could hit and you wouldn’t even know it by the way they’re labeling those transactions. You would skip right by them and you would have no idea.”
Atkinson says the fraudulent charges to her account were from a Walmart, a place many people shop so they may go unnoticed.
In a statement Walmart wrote: “We are committed to maintaining the safety and security of our customers’ information. We are not aware of any unusual activity at this time.”
