Rigby to keep city police department

The Rigby City Council voted unanimously Thursday night to keep the city police department.

Earlier this year, Rigby Mayor Jason Richardson proposed cutting the department and entering into a contract with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for city law enforcement as a way to cut costs.

The contract would have saved the city $200,000 to $300,000 dollars.

The 6 man department will now cut it’s budget by almost $90,000.
