TSA gives tips on getting through security easily

Getting through airport security takes time and can be a pain. The Transportation Security Administration does have some tips on getting through security pain-free.

It partnered with the Idaho Falls Regional Airport Friday to spread the word on what travelers need to know when going through security.

Lorie Dankers, a TSA spokeswoman, said, “We don’t want passengers to get frustrated. We want them to just be able to get on their way, and my hope is to just make things a little more efficient- and to educate people what they can and can’t do- and hopefully get everybody on their way to their friends and their families to celebrate the holidays.”

She said it is important for travelers to be prepared.

“By making sure that you are ready to travel, it will make it better for everyone, and that way our officers can spend a little extra time with those travelers who don’t know the process at all,”said Dankers.

Some of the tips that were given were: Unpack your bags before you pack them in case things were left inside from another trip.

Know what you can and cannot take in a carry-on, not just during the holidays, but every day.

And if you are traveling with presents, the TSA recommends putting them in a gift bag with tissue paper, instead of wrapping them, so if you are asked to open it, you can.

Travelers should also be mindful of liquids. Anything over 3.4 ounces is not allowed in a carry-on. There are some exceptions for things like baby formula and medications, but be sure to inform a TSA officer of them when you get to the checkpoint.

If you are flying this season and don’t know what is and is not allowed in a carry-on, the TSA also has a free app called myTSA, and it lets you know what you can and can’t take.
