Elementary school helps fellow students

Ridge Crest Elementary in Blackfoot is teaming up with local businesses to give back to the community.

They have come up with the idea of doing an “extreme makeover” for some of their students.

The family has four sons who attend the school, and are in desperate need of new bedrooms.

Principal Randy Martineau said he was inspired by a book; ” I read a book, called ‘The End of Molasses Classes’. And there was a school back in Atlanta that did this, and I said, ‘Sounds like a fun idea, we should try it here,we have people willing to give'”.

One teacher said how important it is for these kids to have a place to call their own.

“It’s a place where you can go and just relax and get away from things,” said teacher Sandra Christensen. “And you know just be away from all the worries and stresses of life, which, you know kids now days, they quite often have quite a load on them. So they need to go and just have some me time. “

They are painting the walls and ripping up the old carpet as well as putting in new beds and furniture.

Martineau said he has been impressed with the community’s giving spirit.”Its a great family,and I’m overwhelmed at how willing the community is. Everyone we ask is wiling to step in and help and donate, to make this a fun thing for the boys.”

The family is staying at a local hotel Monday night, and the boys will be able to see the finished rooms when they get home from school Tuesday.
