Bonneville School District to switch to trimester schedule

Wednesday evening Bonneville School District 93 school board voted 4-1 to switch to trimester scheduling for the 2016-2017 school year.

Students will now take an additional two classes every day.

Students currently take 16 classes a year but next year they will take 18.

Those 16 classes fit into two semesters on an A/B schedule.

After the 2015-2016 school year students will attend the same classes every day for 12 weeks.

Each class will period will run between 62 to 65 minutes, which is almost 30 minutes less than the current hour and a half blocks.

Students take about 120 hours of core classes on the semester schedule.

Trimesters will require them to take 60 extra hours of those classes.

The district believes the new schedule will help student retention because the same classes will be held every day.
