Shop with a cop

Sirens were heard Saturday morning as a parade of police cars drove down 17th street in Idaho Falls. K-Mart partnered with local police for “Shop with a Cop” day.

“We take a handful of kids, we have about 30 kids,” said Sgt. Bryan Lovell. “They may have had or been witness to in some circumstance a negative situation with law enforcement, or just need a pick me up and we team them up with an officer.”

Breakfast was served at the Eagles Lodge as officers were paired with a child. Then it was lights flashing and sirens blaring as they made their way to K-Mart. Fundraisers throughout the year provided 30 children with $125 each to buy their families C hristmas gifts. The event is to help children in need and boost the relationship with law enforcement.

“It’s something good they can do for their family,” Lovell said. “Our officers that are involved with that certainly enjoy taking care of it and putting some smiles on their faces for Christmas .”

This is the 5th year Idaho Falls has held the event.
