School security three years after Sandy Hook

Three years after Adam Lanza killed his mother at their home in Newtown, Connecticut, and made his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School armed with a semiautomatic rifle, his actions are still affect lives.

Lanza killed 20 children and six adults at the school, and then took his own life.

Because of these events, schools have made changes.

Camera systems are now used as a matter of routine to see schools.

Even here in Southeast Idaho.

Don Trauntvein, the energy and faculties manager for School District 93, said that Sandcreek Middle School is one the only schools in the nation that has an active shooter alert system in place.

“They have monitors throughout the school and if an individual got in there with a gun and started shooting it automatically sends that link to 911; they know exactly where it is in the building based on what microphone picked it up. They also know what gun was used.”

He also said that these sort of practices help parents stay reassured that their children are safe.
