Icy, slick roads after snow storm

Another snow storm arrives in Pocatello just weeks after Thanksgiving’s storm. Just like that winter blast, icy, slick roads remain as a result. Idaho transportation department has cleaned up the driving hazard it left behind, but lots of ice and slush remain on surface streets.

Meanwhile, according to Lt. Fritz Zweigart of Idaho State Police, 33 slide offs, 16 motor assists, and 22 crashes were reported Monday during the late afternoon hours. He says multiple people were taken to the hospital for minor injuries from accidents between Pocatello Creek Road and Clark Street.

“People need to slow down. I see people zoom past me all the time, even when I have my police lights on.”

Lt. Zweigart says speed is the common cause for accidents during icy times on the road. People may have cars designed to do just fine in the snow, but that still doesn’t exclude them from a potential accident due to the ice.

Coming up tonight on LocalNews8, updates from the transportation department and how they’ve handled this storm as opposed to the last one. Also, what they’re doing differently for the next storm. – That’s coming up tonight!
