Viewer ‘Pays It Forward’ to ‘Pay It Forward’ recipient

Here’s an update on our last “Pay It Forward” story. Amanda French was our latest recipient of $500 from Mountain America Credit Union. She likes to crochet and has done many fundraisers and nonprofit events throughout the community.

One of our Eyewitness News viewers, Carol Williams, saw it and wanted to pay it forward herself. She can’t crochet anymore and wanted to donate all of her yarn to Amanda. She brought two full bags to our studios.

“I don’t need the money and if she’s doing that for a good cause, by all means, she needs it,” said Williams.

“Well, thank you on her behalf,” Eyewitness News anchor Todd Kunz.

We took the yarn to Amanda for Carol, just in time for the holidays.

“Hi Amanda,” said Kunz. “How are you since we last spoke?”

“I am great,” said French.

“We wanted to come see you at your work and surprise you with a gift from a viewer who saw your story and can no longer crochet. Her hands don’t allow her to crochet. She wanted you to have all of her yarn supplies,” said Kunz.

“Are you serious?” asked French.

“I’m serious,” said Kunz.

“Oh my goodness. Wow!” said French.

“So it kind of goes with the season,” said Kunz.

“Yeah!” said French.

“It’s her paying it forward to you,” said Kunz.

“Oh my goodness. Thank you,” said French.

“You bet. Anything you’d like to tell her?” asked Kunz.

“Uhm, thank you so much. This is going to go to a great cause and I’m really excited,” said French.

“OK. You’re on your way to your goal,” said Kunz.

“I am,” said French.

“Merry Christmas,” said Kunz.

“Thank you. Merry Christmas!” said French.

French’s goal is to crochet 300 to 500 hats this next year for Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Williams also included an ornament for French that she made. So this is truly an example of “Paying It Forward” during the Christmas season.
