Jerry Merrill sworn in as new mayor of Rexburg

The City of Rexburg has a new mayor for the first time in several years.

Jerry Merrill was sworn-in along with one new council member and two re-elected council members Thursday evening.

Merrill held a work session prior to the city council meeting to go over the results of a citizen survey to see what goals are important to the public. Some immediate goal responses were better snow removal.

The meeting also discussed many long term goals such as better traffic signals and road repairs.

Mayor Merrill says he has a lot of work ahead to meet those goals.

“It’s kind of a roadmap that we are going to use for the next several years,” says Merrill. “They are things we want to accomplish to make Rexburg a great place.”

One of the first actions of the new council was to vote to rename the Teton Flood Museum. It’s new name will be the Museum of Rexburg. It will still have the flood exhibit but will expand to display more Rexburg history.
