Update: Air quality advisory and burn ban for Franklin County lifted

Update: The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality has lifted the air quality advisory and wood burning ban for Franklin County. Air quality is now in the good category bordering on moderate. Those with health conditions are advised to use caution when spending time outdoors.

Original story: The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality has activated local residential wood burning ordinances in Franklin County. A high pressure system over the area is creating poor air dispersion conditions.

Wood burning is restricted to certified or exempt stoves only. Outdoor burning is also prohibited while the ordinances are in effect. They will remain in effect until air quality has improved.

People with sensitivity to increased particulate levels are encouraged to avoid prolonged physical exertion outside. At current levels there is an increasing likelihood of respiratory symptoms and increased aggravation of asthma or lung ailments.

Air quality was rated “moderate” Wednesday.
