Where do your recycled items go?
Ever wonder where your recycled items go that get collected curbside from your house? General Manager, Mike Kemple of Pacific Recycling gives a good insight on where and how.
“Predominately most of the metal goes to coastal places such as Portland and California. Metals are then rolled up and turned into whatever that company wants to make,” said Kemple.
The metals are cut up or melted then will be shipped to Plymouth, UT or any of the coastal areas.
According to the City of Pocatello, it’s good news for the city as a whole, considering they brought in a 70 percent recycle rate taken from November of 2015. Which paints a green picture of Pocatello residents.
At Pacific Recycling, a collection of various metals, coppers, and aluminum are the majority of their collection, but Kemple says cardboard boxes are collected as well.
There is a section of the recycling area called “Treasure Island” where people of the community can buy from. Bikes, washing machines, and more.
“It’s my livelihood, it’s very important to us.”
