Garage fire causes $10,000 in damage

A garage fire in Idaho Falls caused $10,000 in damage, according to the Idaho Falls Fire Department. The fire happened after a dog knocked over a space heater.

It happened in a garage that it attached to a home on North 25th East. Wynn Whitmeyer, battalion chief with the Idaho Falls Fire Department, said this incident is a reminder to keep your eye on your space heater.

“If this would have been the middle of the night or if somebody’s smoke detector wouldn’t have been working — this fire would have continued to the main part of the house,” Whitmeyer said. “If you’re going to buy a space heater make sure it has an internal switch to shut-off when it gets tipped over.”

Fire officials say everyone got out of the house and there was only one minor injury. One woman was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, she has been released.
