Madison Memorial Hospital closes gift shop

Gift shops in hospitals may become a thing of the past, as many of them are struggling to bring in a profit.

Madison Memorial Hospital Gift Shop has closed, after its operators carefully reviewed the space and revenue.

Director of Nutritional Services Kyle Loveland said,”There wasn’t a lot of foot traffic in that part of the hospital.”

“One of our reasons to closing the gift shop down was it wasn’t adding the value that we’re looking for. And it was losing money. Now we can focus on areas that can make money and will help us to provide better services to our patients.”

Plans are being discussed for the space but so far nothing has been decided.

As for the Pink Lady Auxiliary volunteers, they will be spending more time aiding hospital patients.

Hospital administrators are discussing the possibility of moving an existing flower case, which supplies flowers for family and friends of patients to purchase. However, Loveland said some things would still need to be worked out to accommodate it.
