People on the west side of Rexburg concerned over proposed boat ramp

A December proposal by the Idaho Fish and Game to build a new boat ramp on the Teton River just off 3000 W has nearby homeowners concerned.

“There’s about 25 families that are right adjacent to the river,” said Julie Coray, one of several concerned homeowners. “Our biggest concern is the proximity that this boat dock would be to all of these private homes.”

Coray said many neighbors already have a problem with people wandering into their yards when they come off the river. They feel the boat ramp would only make that problem worse.

That’s why the group spoke with Madison County commissioners to get more discussion going.

“We will look at our ordinance, look at those emails, and go from there in deciding, and move forward,” said John Weber, a Madison County commissioner. “We’ll probably start with a public hearing and get more input from Fish and Game and all entities that are involved.”

Madison County commissioners plan to talk and learn more about the proposal at the commissioner’s next meeting.

Local News 8/Eyewitness News reached out to Idaho Fish and Game for an interview. They declined for today, stating they had just heard about the concerns this past weekend, and wanted to know more before commenting.
