Rocky Mountain Power proposes rate hike to promote conservation

Rocky Mountain Power is proposing to raise rates by .6 percent to help pay for energy efficiency programs.

The company already charges a 2.1 percent charge to promote energy efficiency and programs that reduce overall electrical use to save customers money. Because participation has been high, Rocky Mountain Power says it has invested more in the resource than is currently funded by the Customer Efficiency Services Charge. The charge appears as a line item on a customer’s bill.

If approved the increased charge would generate approximately $5.1 million. It would raise a typical residential customer’s bill by about 61 cents a month.

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission is currently reviewing the company’s request. If you would like to comment on the proposal you can do so at the Public Utilities Commission website.
