Idaho Falls Zoo shows off its newest addition

The Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park debuted its newest: addition: a baby Bactrian camel.

Bactrian camels are an Asian species from Mongolia., They come from the high desert.

Zoo officials named her ZooBacca after Chewbacca, the famous “Star Wars” character and nicknamed her Zowie.

She was born in November 16 and is healthy, and her mother is doing fine.

The birth was surprise for zookeepers, not knowing the mother camel was pregnant.

“When Zowie is full grown she can weigh a little over 2,000 pounds,” said zookeeper, Dallas Laducer.

“Once Zowie is big enough, she will live with her mom and dad.”

Visitors can catch Zowie this spring when the zoo reopens.

The zoo is planning on doing something special for Zoe in May.
