Teenage girl injured after being hit by car in Rigby

Rigby Police Department says a teenage girl was injured after being accidentally hit by a car Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened near the Idaho National Laboratory bus lot on Highway 48.

When Chief Hammon arrived, he found a Toyota Camry in the eastbound lane and a group of people around a juvenile female lying on the ground. The passenger side fender of the Camry had some damage, along with the passenger side windshield.

The driver of the Camry, Cheryl Lee, said that she had pulled out from the high school parking lot and had accelerate to about 35 mph, when the girl stepped off from the snowbank alongside of the road and into her lane of travel. Lee tried to swerve but was unable to avoid hitting the girl.

The injured girl was transported via ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Her family says she is doing fine and is expected to make a full recovery.
