Portneuf Health Trust plans to demolish Bannock Hospital

Portneuf Health Trust (PHT) is working to obtain full ownership of the old “Bannock Hospital” property, commonly referred to as the West Campus in Pocatello. The trust already owns part of the joint venture that owns the real estate.

Portneuf Health Trust President and CEO Shaun Menchaca said trust wants to possibly create a student housing building for ISU students.

PHT plans to demolish the old hospital building. It has been empty for nearly five years and is deteriorating. Demolition on the building will likely begin in late spring or early summer.

“The land still has a high value, but the building has become a burden on the organization because it is now unusable,” said Menchaca. He said it would be difficult to bring the building back to working order and that there are no plans for any other legitimate use of the building.
