Update: Man and woman arrested for burglary of jewelry store

Pocatello Police have arrested 37-year-old Douglas Johnson Jr and 19-year-old Erica Hamilton for burglary of a jewelry store.

Police officers responded to Perry Jewelers on Yellowstone at around 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning after receiving notification of an alarm at the business.

Owner of the store Dave Perry, says he came into his store Sunday morning on his birthday and found Hamilton hiding underneath a desk. He says she pleaded for him not to shoot her, that’s when the police retrieved her from the desk and into custody.

Perry says she told Pocatello Police that it was all Johnson’s idea and that he made her do it.

Police then found the hole in the ceiling leading out onto the roof. Johnson used tools to cut a hole through the roof to gain entry into the store.

“If it wasn’t for my new alarm system, they might have gotten away with my silver or gold,” said Perry.

He says he believes Johnson had robbed him before, 2 or3 years ago as he safe was pried open.

“That’s when he got me good. And he stole a bunch of my silver I never got back.”

This time, neither suspect got away with anything. When officers arrived they found Hamilton inside the store and Johnson on the roof of the business. Both were arrested for burglary. Johnson was also arrested on several other outstanding warrants.

Perry advises other jewelry stores in the community to install a dependable alarm system.
