More than 100 students participate in a chess tournament

More than 100 students at Ucon Elementary are participating in a chess tournament, some as young as third grade.

Students say it’s a way to use their brain. And if you think it’s too difficult to learn the champion of the third and fourth grade group says anyone can play chess.

“It’s pretty easy if you just learn how to move the guys and start at a lower easier level and work your way up to the harder levels,” Brycen Loftus said. “Practice makes perfect, anyone can do anything they put their mind to.”

Loftus says he learned how to play chess on the computer. He says it made it easy to learn how all the pieces move. That’s because you can click on the piece and the computer with tell you how it can move.
