Mascot altercation causes brief court side fight at Madison High School

A spirited show from the mascots of two local high schools led to a brief altercation on the basketball court Tuesday evening.

According to the Idaho State journal police had to break up an altercation involving the mascots and fans from Highland and Madison high schools during a boys basketball game at Madison High School.

The mascot for the Madison Bobcats was leading the Madison student section in a traditional dance routine when the Rams Mascot approached and began distracting the fans and Madison Mascot.

As he walked away the Madison mascot gently shoved the Highland mascot. At this point several Madison students left the bleachers and came onto the court. One of the students shoved the Highland mascot to the ground. This prompted several Highland students to enter the court and a brief fight ensued.

According to the Idaho State Journal, police officers entered the court at this time and broke up the fight. One Madison student appeared to be ushered out of the game by police following the incident but was later allowed to return.

It did not appear that anyone was seriously injured during the altercation.

It was unclear Tuesday night if any of the students involved in incident would be the subject of disciplinary action by their respective school districts.
