Sparks from welding torch start fire at building construction site

Correction:

A construction worker said a group of workers went to the top of the building to put out the fire after it was discovered. He said the worst of the flames were beaten down by workers by the time firefighters arrived. Workers were not stranded on the roof as initially reported.

Original Story:

Firefighting crews responded to a structure fire at the construction site for a new building at 6413 South Doug Andrus drive. Several people working at the site were left stranded on the roof.

Eyewitness of the fire say that as crews worked on the building some stray sparks from a welder caught some foam insulation on fire.

The fire has been put out and the workers were evacuated from the roof. Firefighters say the damage to the construction site was minimal.
