Freestyle Day at Pebble Creek Ski Resort

Big air and shooting zombies were just a few of the events at Pebble Creek’s freestyle day on Saturday.

Sharp turns, big jumps and timed races were all part of the freestyle events. With fresh snow coming down, snowboarders and skiers strapped in to compete in events like big air, best trick and boarder cross.

Each racer was given a number before hitting the course. The top three in each heat raced again for first place. Awards and raffle prizes, such as new ski gear, were given out at an awards party.

Racers said they liked the freestyle events and it was a chance for them to do something they enjoy.

“I just really like skiing and it’s my favorite sport to do and it’s really fun,” said Gavin King, who competed in the skier cross and big air events.

King said this was his first time competing in freestyle day, but he’s very familiar with Pebble Creek.

“I come up here all the time and so I feel like I have a pretty good idea of the course and it’s just a lot of fun,” said King. “The big air event is my favorite.”

Another popular event was the zombie shoot sponsored by the National Guard. People shot at zombie targets while skiing.

With such a good turnout last year, the National Guard was asked to come back and do the event again. This year they made a few changes.

“We got some bigger and better zombies and we got some better equipment up here and I got some really good help with me so that certainly helps,” said Sergeant First Class Trevor Fallows.

Fallows said the zombie shoot is a big hit with the kids, but it’s an event anyone can enjoy.

“It’s just a fun event for the community to get involved with some of the equipment that we have and kind of showcase some of our tools and our equipment and put on a fun event for any participants that want to come up and shoot some zombies with our airsoft rifles,” said Fallows.
