Mother’s Day at Zoo Idaho

In celebration of Mother’s Day, the Pocatello Zoo, which is now Zoo Idaho, offered half price admission for moms.

Moms said they loved the discount idea and it’s a great way to spend mother’s day with their families.

“I think it’s a great idea. It’s one of the reasons why we came here today because then it’s only like three-something,” said Edna Cardenas, a mom who enjoyed the zoo with her daughter. “So it’s free for her, half price for me, and she gets to see all the animals so it’s great.”

Zookeepers said Sundays are usually fairly slow at the zoo, but this Sunday was pretty steady. Even with the skies a little bit overcast, several people still came out to enjoy the animals.

The zoo’s head keeper, Jim Beinemann, said the cloud cover actually made it the perfect day.

“It’s a good day to come to the zoo,” he said. “It’s not too hot and the animals are always active when it’s cooler.”

The mothers who came out to the zoo said they enjoyed their experience.

“This is a great thing for her and I to do, especially on Mother’s Day,” Cardenas said. “The day is awesome so I’m really glad that this zoo offers the discount.”

The zoo said the discount is a way for it to show appreciation to mothers. It’s also a good chance for it to get more people aware of their new Zoo Idaho name.

The zoo said the name, which was changed about a month ago, has been a good thing for them.

“I think we’re getting better recognition,” Beinemann said. “One of the reasons is that we come up earlier on Google searches. And so actually, if you Google ‘Zoo Idaho,’ we’re number one.”

The zoo said it’s just excited to have people out for the day and it hopes for an enjoyable Mother’s Day for everyone.

The zoo plans to offer the same discount for Father’s Day on June 19.
