Fire burns 18 storage units in Pocatello

18 storage units were burned in afire Monday morning in Pocatello.

The storage units are H & H Mini Storage located at 1100 S. Main.

According to Pocatello Fire Chief David Gates, someone spotted smoke coming from one of the units and called it in at approximately 9 a.m.

Gates said crews first on the scene saw heavy smoke coming from one of the storage structures.

He said it took crews a couple of hours to get the fire under control. The fire wasn’t declared completely out until approximately 11:45 a.m.

Gates said they used all of their Pocatello fire department resources on this fire. Crews have the fire under control and are working on salvage and cleanup.

Gates said approximately nine storage units on each side of the building were completely burned.

Gates said fires in storage units are especially challenging for firefighters to get under control quickly.

“Storage units have a common attic so the fire spread fairly rapidly from unit to unit, as well as the fact that they’re very difficult to enter because of the locking systems they have make it very difficult to enter,” Gates said.

There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
