Power restored in Upper Valley

According to Rocky Mountain Power, power is restored to all customers in the Rexburg, Rigby, St. Anthony and Ashton area.

Some24,759customers were without power when the outage began after the noon hour.

The power outage was caused by an insulator on a transformer that failed at a substation near 2nd West and 2nd North in Madison County.

Accordingto Rexburg/Madison fire chief, Corey Child, the transformer heated up and released smoke. Rocky Mountain Power shut down the substation to let it cool down before fire crews arrived.

The power was completely restored by 3:30 p.m.
