UPDATE: Explosives at Blackfoot Walmart

The parking lot at the Walmart in Blackfoot is now open. Earlier, the Idaho Falls Bomb Squad and Blackfoot police set up a perimeter after finding small explosives in a car. The bomb squad has removed those explosives from the area to examine them.

Police have a suspect but haven’t interviewed him yet so they don’t know the suspect’s intentions. Charges are still pending.

The parking lot is clear now after being closed for hours. Some customers not allowed to leave.

Some cars and trucks made their own exit by going over a rock landscape.

“They are small enough that it wouldn’t cause a big explosion or anything like that,” said Lt. Paul Newbold.”We have probably a 500 yard by 300 yard safety zone.”

Police sealed off half of the parking lot trapping shoppers.Blackfoot police emptied the car, and waited for the bomb squad to arrive.Once the bomb squad arrived they used the bomb disposal robot to check the car.
“X-ray it see what’s in side of it and once they do their X-ray each bomb one at a time they will take them away,” said Newbold.
