Plans to revitalize downtown Idaho Falls

Downtown Idaho Falls may see some changes soon. The Idaho Falls Redevelopment Agency met Thursday to continue discussing the plans they have to revitalize the downtown area.

The Redevelopment Agency is looking to build on the old Kelsch property to attract more people downtown. The property is located at Broadway and Memorial on the site of the former Saving Center grocery store.

The plan is to construct two buildings that will have retail, residential, and office spaces. However, there is a concern in being able to provide enough parking accommodations in the area.

The board voted to move forward and enter negotiations with this current proposal.

“The hope is to attract some individuals downtown, we want more people living downtown who can be spending and contributing to a vibrant downtown Idaho Falls,” said Chairman Lee Radford.

For the Bonneville Hotel renovations, three proposals have been made to the board, and a decision should be made on which proposal to move forward with in July or August.

Building could start as early as spring 2017.
