New Blackfoot community center to open soon

Blackfoot Community Center will be moving to a new location in Riverside Plaza and it will have a YMCA feel to it. The community center is still in its pre-opening construction phase.

The Blackfoot Community Center partnered with the charter school next door. The center will have access to classrooms, and the charter school will have access to a gym for its physical education requirements.

The new facility was possible due to volunteer support and sponsorships. However, the Blackfoot Community Center still needs four more $5,000 sponsors.

“It’s definitely something people are going to want to put their name on. This is a great attraction for the city of Blackfoot, we serve hundreds of kids every single day and lots of families,” Blackfoot Community Center Executive Director Ashley Howell said.

Sponsor names will be put on the community center’s sport court inside the ; the only publicly accessible sport court in Blackfoot.

The grand opening is scheduled for 11:45 a.m Thursday.
