Fort Hall man accused of murder appears in district court

Demetrius Anthony Gomez, 29, was in U.S. District Court in Pocatello Thursday morning for an arraignment.

Gomez is accused of fatally shooting Tyrone Diaz in the face in early May.

Gomez is charged with second-degree murder. A grand jury formally indicted him on that charge last week.

During his court appearance on Thursday, Gomez pleaded not guilty.

A federal search warrant was obtained in the investigation. Federal prosecutor Jim Dalton requested Thursday that the contents of the search warrant not be released at this time.

Gomez will appear for a jury trial on July 11.

If convicted, he faces a maximum of life in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Gomez remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
