Biker runs into woman and leaves scene

A week ago, the sun was out, the flowers were in bloom at the City Creek Trails in Pocatello. A place that is getting more populated as the weather heats up. It was a good day for Muriel Roberts on the hiker trail, who looked forward all winter to seeing the flowers. The trails are known to have very clear signs stating the separation for both hikers and bikers going down the hiker trail. Her being on the hiker trail, she says she was greeted by a biker anyway and not in the best of terms. She was suddenly hit by the incoming biker.

Roberts said she was brought to the ground, she had hit her head and her arm was in pain. The biker said he was trying to stop but wasn’t able to in time. She was too angry to listen to him. Without exchanging names or contact information, he said he would meet her at the bottom of the trail.

“He didn’t even help me up. He might have asked if I was ok, but I can’t remember,” said Roberts. She recalls him to be a man in his 20s, wearing red and white biker gear.

When she got to the bottom of the trail, he was nowhere in sight.

“I felt good knowing he wasn’t there, since I had gotten pretty angry at him. All I was thinking at the time, was to quickly get medical attention.”

“He knew he was guilty of riding down that no-down-hill trail, so no wonder he took off, he didn’t want to get in trouble,” said Art Phelps, hiker.

“There’s a lot of new bikers out there. The sport has blown up. A lot of them don’t know trail etiquette. It is there responsibility to figure out the rules of the trail,” said Cory Wight, biker.

After suffering through painful, sleepless symptoms of the head concussion and with her arm now in a cast, she says she’s lucky to have had her health insurance take care of the expenses.

Roberts says she had no desire to file a police report or seek legal action. She just wanted it to be over. However, she says she intended to reach out to the local media. She wanted to put out a message to the community, making sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else.

“I think he’s hurt. I think he knows. I hope he feels bad (laughs),” said Roberts.
