Family of 5 displaced due to Blackfoot crash and fire

A Blackfoot family of five is now homeless — and all because of a house fire next door. The Henry’s home caught fire secondhand because the neighbor’s house was hit by a car on Tuesday night.

“Me, my kids, were in the living room and I just got done feeding my 2-month-old son, and that’s when we heard the bang. Right after that so I ran out back, seen him – watched him stumble out and start just running. And then I saw the fire over here so I took my little hose and tried spraying it off – and it just got bigger so quick,” said Brandon Henry.

Brandon, his 10-year-old daughter, and 2-month-old son got out safely. Brandon’s girlfriend and her son were not home at the time.

“So I ran inside grabbed the kids, we went outside just over here and watched it burn. The kids’ bedrooms were back here, they got completely destroyed. Basically, whatever didn’t get hit by the fire, got hit by smoke and water. So everything in this house is gone,” said Henry.

The Henrys rented this house for about a year and a half. Their insurance is putting them in a motel while they look for a new home.

The family is overwhelmed by all of the community support.

“Red Cross has come, they’re a blessing in disguise – they’re awesome. They’re helping us out a lot. And then the community around here it’s amazing, everyone coming together to help us,” said Henry.

Dillon Gibson is the man charged with crashing into the first home and starting the fire. His preliminary hearing is June 23 at Bingham County Courthouse.
