Man arrested after attacking woman, disturbing the peace

Idaho Falls Police arrested 49-year-old David J. Ellender for attempted strangulation, interfering with a 911 call, petty theft, malicious injury to property and disturbing the peace Tuesday afternoon.

Ellender, homeless, was booked into the Bonneville County Jail.

According to reports, officers were dispatched to South Tourist Park for a physical domestic disturbance around 2:30 p.m. Witnesses reported to police that Ellender threw a 40-year-old woman on the ground and began choking her.

One of the witnesses was able to help the woman free herself from Ellender. The witness called police and gave the phone to the woman to talk with dispatch. Ellender grabbed the phone and threw it into the river.
