Update: Man arrested for grand theft, resisting arrest

An Idaho Falls man was arrested by Idaho Falls Police after he illegally entered a woman’s home and she held him at gunpoint until she could back out of the home.

Officers took a theft report on Sunday in the 600 block of East 13th Street. Someone, later identified as 32-year-old Joshua E. Patterson, stole a wallet and speakers from the backyard of the residence. A debit/credit card was later used at a Common Cents, 1003 S. Boulevard, and at Walmart, 500 S. Utah Ave.

According to reports, police later spotted Patterson in the area of Holmes Avenue, between 1st Street and Lomax Sunday afternoon. He ran away from police through backyards before entering a residence on Gladstone.

A woman inside the house said she drew a weapon and had the man get to his knees until she could back out of the house.

Police were close behind and took Patterson into custody at around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Patterson of Idaho Falls was booked into the Bonneville County Jail.

Patterson is being charged with grand theft, fraudulent possession of a financial transaction card, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful entry, and outstanding county warrants.
