Greenway Foundation celebrates trail expansion

The Portneuf Greenway Foundation and the friends of the Parrish Family will be holding a short ceremony for the newest section of the Portneuf Greenway.

This comes after the plan to expand and connect the trails at the Edson Fichter Pond to the trails at the Portneuf Wellness Complex. President of the Board of Directors for Portneuf Greenway Foundation, Rory Erchul, says this is all in the making and will take a few years.

He says the construction has started little by little here and there for now. At the Edson Fichter Pond, you can see paving in its initial developing stages.

The Parrish Reach of the Greenway extends west from Satterfield Drive, along the north edge of the Highlands neighborhood. It turns south on Olympus Drive and runs along it to the entrance of the Portneuf Wellness Complex at Jerome Street.

The new trail will be ADA compliant will be 10 feet wide, feature a pedestrian warning flasher for crossing Olympus Drive at the entrance to the Portneuf Wellness Complex.

“We’ve been able to secure and or complete about $500K worth of trails here in the Pocatello community. And we just got wind of another $50K grant money we’re going to use to continue our mission of building trails,” said Erchul.

The celebration will be held at the Portneuf Wellness Complex at 5:45p.m. Thursday evening.
