Man severely burned in boat fire at Pocatello gas station

One man has suffered severe burns after a boat caught fire at a Pocatello gas station, Saturday afternoon.

The fire started around 2 p.m. at the Phillips 66 gas station on Pocatello Creek Road.

A witness on the scene said one man with of the boat went inside the convenience store at the gas station while another man was putting gas in the boat. The boat then ignited, with flames reaching up to 30 feet in the air.

According to eyewitnesses the man on the burning boat was pulled away from the fire by another man.

Fire crews arrived on the scene and completely extinguished the fire. The convenience store’s awning was partially burned and the burned man was taken to Portneuf Medical Center via ambulance and was later airlifted to a Salt Lake City hospital to be treated for the burns.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
