Firefighters respond to home fire started by internet modem

The Idaho Falls Fire Department responded to a small fire at a home at 230 Sunset Drive that was sparked by an internet modem.

Rainey Taylor, who rents the home, says the modem started to spark and make a popping noise before catching on fire.

Taylor called 911 at about 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. It took firefighters about an hour to put the fire out.

“Luckily I was home when the fire started, or things could have been a lot worst,” says Taylor.

A fire inspector was called to the home to investigate the fire further. Taylor says the internet modem was only six months old.
