St. Anthony PD receives hate mail, mistaken for Minnesota city

The St. Anthony Police Department is receiving hate mail apparently from people who mistake the east Idaho city for the city of St. Anthony in Minnesota, where Philandro Castro, a black man, was shot in his car last week by a white cop.

Police Chief Terry Harris said the hate mail has come to the station in all forms: mail, email, Facebook messages and phone calls.

The police department has never received such angry complaints, even though the messages were not intentionally meant for them.

“No threats personally, I think it’s all just sheer mistaken information. They didn’t realize it was the wrong St. Anthony. Some of the people have been very receptive about being corrected on it, and then, others haven’t,” Harris said.

In addition, the city’s police department web page was taken down by the infamous hacker group “Anonymous”.
