Pocatello judge moves closer to Senate confirmation

The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee has unanimously voted to advance the nomination of 6th District Judge David C. Nye of Pocatello to be Idaho’s next U.S. District Judge.

Nye’s nomination will now be reported to the full Senate for consideration, the final step in his confirmation process.

At his initial appearance before the committee on June 21, Judge Nye was asked by Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC) to explain the phrase, “rule of law.” Nye responded, “I believe that it is the rule of law that makes our civilization, our country so great; a willingness to follow the law as written by the Legislature and then the precedential value that comes from the case law of the courts.”

After 20 years of experience in private practice, Judge Nye has served as a Sixth District Judge for nine years. In addition, Judge Nye presides over a successful diversionary felony drug court program and serves in several roles as an advisor to the Idaho Supreme Court and the Idaho State Bar.
