Progress on new Pocatello city flag is moving along

What was called the worst is now in the process of trying to become one of the best. The city of Pocatello is making progress toward designing its new flag.

Flag design committee members presented their plan of action to the city council Thursday morning. The committee explained to the council how they plan to get design submissions, what they plan to do with the designs and how they will select the final flag choice. The committee has a presentation ready as part of their public education campaign. Members will begin presenting to various groups in the community next week. One committee member, Logan McDougall, said they’re reaching out to a lot of groups in the hopes of encouraging more people to submit designs.

“We want to tell you why you should be involved in this process,” said McDougall. “We want to see a wide swath of the community, as many people as possible submitting their designs. If you’re not a professional designer, so what? We want to see it, we want to see what you think Pocatello means to you and put it on paper.”

The final deadline for submission is Dec. 2. Entry forms and submissions can be found at flag.pocatello.us. Submissions can also be dropped off or mailed to the mayor’s office.
