Lightning starts new fire near Alpine

Lightning started a new fire on the Bridger-Teton National Forest Friday. The White Fire is located about 18-miles down the Grey’s River Road from Alpine, Wyoming and four miles south of the Deer Creek Guard Station.

The one-quarter acre fire was burning in shrubs and grasses, along with some fallen dead timber and mixed conifer trees. A visitor spotted the fire Thursday afternoon and firefighters found it early Thursday night.

There are no structures threatened and no road closures.

Fire danger on the Bridger-Teton is “high” and has been since the end of June. That means fire can start easily and spread quickly.
