Cabela’s hosts law enforcement appreciation barbeque

With the recent backlash against police officers across the nation, a local business in Ammon wanted to show its gratitude.

Cabela’s hosted a law enforcement appreciation barbecue on Friday.

“They do the job because they want to protect and serve their community. That’s why I got into it. I like to protect people who couldn’t and wanted to do good for people. And I believe that’s why they do it too. The unfortunate thing, most of the time people they deal with probably don’t appreciate it. And so that’s why we’re doing this, just so they feel the love of the community and feel appreciated from the community,” said Cabela’s general manager Curtis Smith, a former police officer.

Cabela’s parking lot was full of police cars from all over southeast Idaho. Bonneville County sheriff’s officers, Idaho Falls police officers, and Idaho State troopers came to the sporting goods store parking lot for a good lunch break.

People came by to shake hands, say “Thank you” and eat with their local officers.

“You have your job, we have ours. I think the community understands that. They understand the need for what we do and what we bring. And so that’s very important to all of us,” said Bonneville County Sheriff Paul Wilde.

The event was catered by Broulims.
