Idaho Falls Fire Department puts new ambulance crew in service

The Idaho Falls Fire Department has a new crew in service assigned to Ambulance No. 6.

Newly trained emergency personnel will help keep the department afloat when crews are dispatched. In the past, the fire department has run out of ambulances on a daily basis because of multiple calls at one time. Now, with another staffed ambulance in the fleet, response times can be decreased within the city.

Ambulance No. 6 has had 18 calls since it was put into service on Wednesday.

“Adding the new ambulance crew adds a total of six people to our department. That’s two people per shift, which mans the ambulance here at the station. So we have a new ambulance with a crew to augment the existing six ambulances that we have,” said EMS division chief Eric Day.

Ambulance No. 6 is the first newly staffed unit in 21 years that the Idaho Falls Fire Department has put into service.
