Suicide prevention awareness for veterans

Motorcyclists and veteran associates started the 1st Annual “Honoring the Armed Forces Rally” Saturday in Idaho Falls. Motorcyclists then traveled down to Pocatello to visit with veterans at the Idaho State Veterans Home. The event was to help vets in need with depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and to help with suicide prevention.

“This is a good place. They take care of old vets,” said Jack Kremer, WWII Army Veteran, who waited with many other vets Saturday for the motorcyclists to arrive.

Sacrifice after sacrifice, men and women in uniform have served more than just their country. In return, there are many who are willing to give back to veterans who need it most.

“When they come home, there are lasting effects that pushes them toward different kinds of abuse and even suicide. So the intent is to try to bring awareness to that, and also raise funds to assist with the counseling of that,” said Josiah Dahlstrom, Idaho State Veterans Home.

Over 60 motorcyclists arrived to share their time with vets at the Veterans Home.

“It feels great helping out,” said Donella McLaughlin, motorcyclist.
“You can see the looks on their faces they appreciate us being here,” said Mac McLaughlin, motorcyclist.

“Weather is beautiful today. And I plan on having a good time,” said Kremer.

Dahlstrom says he plans to hold this at the Veterans Home again next year. In spite of the hard times a veteran has been through, he says he hopes this event can help lift their spirits and keep them hopeful and happy for the future.
