The Tin Cup Challenge takes over Driggs

The 9th annual Tin Cup Challenge took place Saturday morning. The city plaza in Driggs was full of runners and donators enjoying the start to their days.

“In eight years, we’ve raised $8 million in a valley of 10,000 people and only two stoplights. So it’s really an extraordinary community we live in here in Teton Valley,” said Community Foundation of Teton Valley executive director Carrie Mowry.

The money goes to Teton Valley nonprofits, and this year, 42 nonprofits participated in the Tin Cup Challenge.

“The giving that happens as a result of this event are up to 50% of our annual operating funds. They make it possible for us to secure government grants, to hire the people, to put our work on the ground,” said Friends of the Teton River executive director Amy Verbeten.

The Tin Cup Challenge is a day of fun, generosity, and a day for the Teton Valley community to come together.

“We’re so lucky to live in a community that values its nonprofits the way that this community does,” said Verbeten.

“I think that everyone is pretty much very overwhelmed by the generosity and the incredible innovation and creativity that the non profits bring to this valley — in solving social problems and meeting the needs of our residents,” said Mowry.

Last year the fundraiser collected $1.2 million in donations. They expect to match that this year.
