Small wildfire near Portneuf Road contained

Firefighters are working to put out a small wildfire that is burning just off Portneuf Road near Pocatello.

The fire was originally reported just after 3 pm Monday. Sheriff Lorin Nielsen says the fire is contained at this time but not out.

Two structures are currently being threatened by the fire but crews believe that fire is contained enough at this time to avoid damage to them.

The amount of ground burned by the fire is still being estimated. At this time the sheriff’s office believes that the fire may have been caused by a smoldering campfire but that is still being investigated.

Portneuf Valley Fire are the primary responders to the fire but they have called in support from Pocatello, Chubbuck, Inkom and Lava Hot Springs.

Currently, Portneuf Road is closed.
