Pocatello holds open house for bridge replacement plan

To show people what’s on the agenda for the Lewis Street Bridge replacement project, the city’s engineering department held an open house Monday.

Engineering staff showed how long the construction time was estimated to be, as well as planned detours and closures during construction.

The total cost for the replacement is projected to be $1.3 million and the city will be paying $93,000 of that amount.

The bridge was originally built in 1948.

“It’s lived its useful like and it shows,” said city engineer Deirdre Castillo. “If you drive over it you can see the concrete deck is starting to fall apart. Underneath the steel beams it shows a lot of rust.”

In case you missed the meeting and would like to see the plans, you can call Pocatello’s engineering department at 208-234-6587 or email Castillo at dcastillo@pocatello.us.
