Investigation shows 2015 dorm fire was started by suicide attempt

After nearly a year of investigation, the National Park Service says that a fire in the employee dorms in July of 2015 was caused by an employee who committedsuicide.

On July 31st, 2015, firefighting crews from Jackson Hole Fire and others responded to a fire at the employee dorms housed at Colter Bay Village. The dorms are managed by Grand Teton Lodge Company.

While fighting the fire responders found an unresponsive victim in the dorm room where the fire originated. Crews tried to revive the victim but were unsuccessful. The victim was identified as 28-year-old Anthony Kyle Graviano of Pennsylvania, an employee of the Grand Teton Lodge Company. Graviano sustained third-degree burns to over 50% percent of his body.

As the investigation continued it was determined that Gravianohad used a flammabledevice to set the fire in his room intentionally as a suicide attempt.

Four other people were injured as a result of the fire.
